This winter, I get the amazing opportunity to travel to a city called Cochabamba for the second time. I can’t wait to go and see what God will teach me through that experience.
Last time I went I was in grade 10, and I just feel like I’ve grown so much since then. I am so excited to get down there.
We work with an organization called Niños Con Valor, which translates to “Children with Value”. NCV has two orphanages in Cochabamba, a girl’s home (Corazòn Del Pastor- The Shepherd’s Heart) and a boy’s home (Pedacito de Cielo- A Little Piece of Heaven). These homes are unique in that they take in HIV/AIDS affected kids, something that is pretty rare in Bolivia. HIV/AIDS affected children are not seen with the same value as those unaffected, and NCV is working to give those children value. You can read all about them on their website, http://www.ninosconvalor.org, and also look at pictures of the beautiful children!
Last time we went, we did a VBS at Corazón, and KinderMusic for the kids at Pedacito, since they were all under the age of 5. We also built a ramp so an elderly woman could get into her home to care for her grandchildren. Before the ramp, she was forced to live in a shack beside the house because the steps were too difficult for her to maneuver. And for part of the second week we were in Cochabamba, we actually got to travel to a mountain village called Misque and deliver Christmas hampers of food and toys to different small villages nearby
This time, our projects are going to be pretty different, and I’m just so excited to work with the NCV kids again. My family actually decided to sponsor one of the girls we met when we were down there, and I can’t wait to see her again!
Mission trips are one of the most satisfying things ever. Those kids impacted me so much last time, and I know they will again. They are so full of love and happiness. I honestly don’t even have the words to explain the impact it has on me to see them.
So anyways, from January 20-February 4th I will be in Bolivia! And I will hopefully be doing blog updates.. probably not as regularly but we’ll have to see!
